In my last article on IMPP (Integral Mathematics of Primordial Perspectives), I described the three basic ‘persons’ that all of us as sentient beings can be broken down into. (Of course, I must add, the philosophy as to what constitutes a sentient being will be discussed at a later time.)
1p – first person
(i.e. me)
2p – second person
(i.e. you)
3p – third person
(i.e. George Bush, for example)
What I’ll describe below are the assertions, associated with each person. Wilber uses the wordperspective in his writings. However, I will stick with the term assertions is more specific snce the word perspective is quite general, and could refer to other things.
The way we symbolically write assertions are with a “-”. Thus, according to this notation:
1-p – first person assertion – an assertion of me
(e.g. I am quite the son of a bitch.)
2-p – second person assertion – an assertion of you
(e.g. You have an incredibly shapely nose.)
3-p – third person assertion – an assertion of George W. Bush
(e.g. George W. Bush was a conservative president.)
w, we have three assertions that relate to the three persons.
What can we do by breaking them down? Well, we can distinguish who the assertion is referring to. Are these facets of me, you, and/or someone else. This again is quite obvious at this stage to all of us, but again, we’re establishing a foundation here that all of IMPP builds off of.
